About

South Florida Deaf Senior Citizens, Inc. (SFDSC), established in 2020, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the needs of deaf seniors in South Florida. The organization focuses on enhancing education, fostering socialization, facilitating communication, and promoting collaboration. SFDSC's mission is to improve access for deaf seniors to local, county, and state services and programs, ensuring they have the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.

SFDSC held its first official gathering on March 11, 2021, at the Wellington Community Center. This initial event was a significant milestone, offering deaf seniors a chance to connect and socialize in person. The COVID-19 pandemic soon followed, leading to the suspension of in-person activities. During this period, SFDSC adapted by transitioning to virtual events via Zoom, maintaining connections and providing support despite the challenges posed by the pandemic.

When COVID-19 restrictions eased, SFDSC eagerly resumed its in-person events, restarting its monthly gatherings at the Wellington Community Center and expanding to other locations throughout South Florida. These events have become a cornerstone of the organization’s efforts, including a variety of activities such as educational presentations, special programs tailored to the interests of deaf seniors, picnics, and enriching outings to local museums and wildlife sanctuaries. By diversifying offerings, SFDSC continues to create meaningful experiences and build a vibrant community for deaf seniors in the region.
